What's in a (nick)name?
Mothers are famous for nicknaming their children. There isn't a single man, woman or child that I know who has not at some time been called by a nickname. Occasionally it's just a sweet knowing between mother and child. More often it is widely known throughout the family and community. Certain nicknames span generations, never losing their texture, flavor or popularity. While others are obscure and nothing you would hear more than once.
What are your children's nicknames? Where did the name come from? What is your nickname?

Well let's see...I have SEVERAL names for all my kids. Collectively, they're called "The Littles" - The Biggest Little (the 14 year old), Middle Little (the 8 year old) and the Littlest Little (the 3 year old).
I've also been known to call them MONKEY - each have them have been called MONKEY at one time or another. The climb on EVERY THING. BL likes to pick things up with his feet.

And I've only seen MONKEYS do that!!
I started calling ML "Rymo" - it's the first two letters of his first name and the first two letters of his last name. It was catchy and now his brothers call him that too.
LL's name is Devon. I started calling him Devonito (because he was so little compared to his siblings), but he couldn't say DEVONITO...instead he called himself DEVONPITO - which we've all shortened to PITO...which of course has me calling him PITO BURRITO sometimes.
But if you ask LL what his name is, he'll tell you it's Anakin (and you better not dispute it - cuz those are fightin words!!!)

The "littles" as a collective name is quite sweet too. You might be having too much fun out yonder there.
I love this. Before my son was born (before I knew what I was having) I called him Chipotle Sussudio Sunjata-Diggs. Chipotle because that was the only real craving I had. Sussudio because the Phil collins song is awesome. Sunjata-Diggs for my real 'baby daddies', Daniel Sunjata and Taye Diggs. It was a difficult pregnancy that I went through on my own so while I was in and out of the hospital, I would talk to "Chipotle" and just saying his "name" would make me laugh out loud.
My son is 18 months old now and his name is Elaiwe. I started calling him Papa the second I met him. At 9 months old, I noticed how much rhythm the boy had. Not just regular baby rhythm, Like serious keep time and bounce with it rhythm. As he got older it got more and more pronounced. Now he gets two pencils or spoons in his hands and he bangs out a beat. So I went from calling him E Boogie Baby Boy to E Boogie and now just Boogie. Some of his uncles and aunties still call him Chipotle. Most folks call him E. I call him Boogie, Papa Boogie, Boogie Bear, Boogie Bera, Boogs, Boogsie. Hopefully, when he's a famous drummer/doctor/cowboy, he will be Dr. Boogie Ikpi. Honestly though, he's got hip hop in his blood so I'm getting his MC name and tag already down.

I've called her Kitten from the day she was born. She had so many kiten-like qualities and mannerisms. Also, the long sleeved little shirts and night gowns with the part that cuffed her hands in made it seem like she had paws. She seemed to purr at times too! She was just my precious little Kitten, and the name is still relevant as she approaches her second birthday.
KayKay was my nickname growing up that my family has reassigned to my daughter. I tease them that it's not fair to 'give away' someone's nickname, but i think it's kind of special for us to share that.
I started calling her Fat Mama around day 3. My mom thought that was so funny because her first babydoll was named Fat Mama. I'm sure this one will probably fade away around age 3 and i'll be able to tell her what i used to call her when she was a chunky little baby/toddler.

That is sooooo cute! My little cousin was MooMoo and now that he's 14, we are completely banned from even pretending to utter those words in his direction lol
how crazy!!! My son, Ohene, was CHICKEN while I was pregnant-its sounds crazy now, but the only thing I didn't eat when I was pregnant was chicken...so, thus he became...it really was a loving name when I said it...lol
BUT since he was about a year old, I've called him Boogie...or boogie woogie...or boog...one because he has this ability to dance to any noise that sounds like a rhythm and because he always had a nose full of boogers--i called them boogies...lol...
either way, he has requested that I only call him boogie or boogie woogie...there's 4.85 years for ya...

On the nickname front, I knew the most beautiful boy in high school named Boogie. Oh how I wished I could have just looked him in the eye, but alas i was sure that would kill me instantly! LOL!
My daughter's nickname is Bwalada. I know, I know...it just came out one day. Her other nickname is Midget because she won't respond to her father when he tries to pronounce Bwalada.

We have a variety of nicknames in our family - Monkey, Snake, Ca-Ca (short a), Tay Tay, and then of course there is Brother and Sister. I'm not really fond of calling someone Monkey, or even snake. I try to use their real names.
